First night at Oceana: dinner south of the Oasis

by | May 1, 2026 | Local Area

You have just checked in, the kitchen is not stocked yet, and everyone is hungry. Good news: your first night dinner in Broadbeach is sorted without moving the car. From Oceana on Broadbeach, five options sit within a five minute walk, ordered here from closest to furthest, including takeaway across the road, a no-booking bistro and a table worth reserving. This is the arrival-night shortlist.

We sit at the southern end of Broadbeach, south of the Oasis, so these are the closest options to our front door rather than the whole dining scene. Pick by how much energy you have left.

Lola’s Fish and Chips: the across-the-road takeaway

Distance: about 1 minute walk (101 Old Burleigh Road, directly opposite). Directions: straight across Old Burleigh Road from our entrance. Hours: 6am to 2:30pm daily, plus 5pm to 7:30pm Tuesday to Saturday.

For a late arrival, Lola’s Fish and Chips is the fastest fix. It is the fish and chip shop guests keep mentioning as being right across the road. Order classic fish and chips, a burger or a takeaway pizza, and you can order online for pickup to skip the wait. It is kid friendly and cheap, with no booking needed. The move on night one is to grab a parcel, walk 60 seconds home, and eat on your balcony or fire up the poolside BBQ gazebo while the kids get into pyjamas.

Broadbeach Bowls Club: dinner with no booking

Distance: about 1 minute walk (directly behind us). Directions: out towards Old Burleigh Road and into the club. Hours: Matadors Bistro Sunday to Thursday 11:30am to 8pm, Friday and Saturday 11:30am to 8:30pm.

The Broadbeach Bowls Club bistro is the easiest sit-down first night, and it takes walk-ins. Its Matadors Bistro does honest pub food: order the chicken parmigiana, a T-Bone, or the beer-battered fish and calamari. It leans family friendly, with Kids Eat Free Thursdays and an early close, so it suits an early dinner with tired children. Weekend waits are usually short, though a Friday or Saturday around 6:30pm can mean a brief queue. No booking needed, which is exactly what a first night calls for.

Kurrawa Surf Club: a beachfront table on arrival

Distance: about 2 to 3 minutes walk along the foreshore. Directions: south along the Gold Coast Oceanway to the surf club on Old Burleigh Road. Hours: bistro lunch 11:30am to 2:30pm, dinner 5:30pm to 8:30pm; pizzeria 11:30am to 9pm.

Kurrawa Surf Club gives you a casual meal with an ocean view a couple of minutes from the door. The bistro fish and chips is the local order, and the Kurrawa Pizzeria runs later if you want a pizza to share. It is relaxed and family friendly, takes walk-ins, and the beachfront outlook makes it feel like a proper start to the holiday. Weekend dinner service can fill the view tables early, so arrive before 6:30pm for a window seat, or grab pizza to take back to the apartment.

Koi Dining: worth booking for the first night

Distance: about 3 minutes walk. Directions: turn towards the Oasis and cut through to Surf Parade. Hours: midday until late Thursday to Saturday, Sunday until 6pm.

If night one is the grown-ups’ night, Koi Dining and Lounge Bar on Surf Parade is the one to book. It is a modern Australian and seafood room built for a longer sit-down. Order the beef tartare, tuna crispy rice or kingfish crudo to share, then lamb cutlets if you want something bigger. It leans adults, and Friday and Saturday nights book out, so reserve before you arrive rather than chancing a walk-in. If you have called ahead, this turns a first night into the highlight of the trip.

Mamasan: share plates a few minutes on

Distance: about 4 to 5 minutes walk. Directions: continue to Oracle Boulevard in the Broadbeach dining precinct. Hours: open daily, midday to midnight.

A little further into the Oracle, Mamasan Kitchen and Bar does Asian fusion built to share, which suits a group landing together. Order the spanner-crab tortellini dumplings, the pork bao and the Korean fried chicken, and let the table graze. It is lively rather than quiet, so it works better for adults or older kids than for early bedtimes. Reservations are recommended, especially on weekends, when the room is busy from around 7pm. If everyone still has energy on arrival, it is a fun, close first meal.
